Foreign body tracking in an RGP lens wearer

Guari Kunjeer Patel from Nagar School of Optometry in India captured this image using an iPhone 6S and slit-lamp biomicroscope. The image shows corneal epithelial erosion caused by the presence of a foreign body under a rigid gas-permeable lens. The track marks are viewed under diffused illumination using fluorescein dye and a cobalt blue filter with medium magnification.

The joint meeting replaces SOA’s standalone event and organisers hope the new format will attract more than 700 delegates. Due to the change in format, the two-day event – sponsored by Alcon, CooperVision and Menicon – will now take place on 18-19 September at the Singapore Polytechnic Convention Centre.

Compliance in the spotlight for IACLE meeting at NCC2018

An instruction manual with information and education on compliance could help to improve awareness of this issue among educators, students and contact lens wearers. This was just one of the ideas put forward at an IACLE meeting held at the Nederlands Contactlens Congres (NCC) last month. FIACLEs Wim Borst and Henri Eek led the discussion on patient compliance, and Byki Huntjens gave a presentation on IACLE and its aims.

IACLE takes the lead in CL education in the Middle East

IACLE members in the Middle East met at the 4th Jordanian Palestinian Optometry Conference (JOPAL), held in Amman, Jordan from March 14-16. Members (pictured) discussed contact lens education in the region and how it could be improved and perhaps unified in the near future. Contact lens awareness campaigns in each country, starting a small society for contact lens fitters in the region, and monthly webinars with updates on contact lens education and research, were among the ideas discussed.

Dr Yazan Gammoh, 2017 IACLE Contact Lens Educator of the Year EAME, has created a WhatsApp group for IACLE members in the Middle East and North Africa. Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to join.
