The IACLE Contact Lens Educator of the Year Awards were introduced in 2014 to recognize and reward achievements in contact lens education worldwide.
Sponsored by CooperVision, these prestigious awards are presented each year.
The title IACLE Contact Lens Educator of the Year is usually awarded to one individual from each of IACLE’s global regions:
- Asia Pacific
- Europe / Africa – Middle-East
This year, for the first time, one of the awards is shared by two educators.
The 2018 winners are as follows:
FIACLE Lyndon Jones, Professor at the School of Optometry and Vision Science, University Research Chair and Director of the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE) at the University of Waterloo, Canada, is 2018 IACLE Americas Contact Lens Educator of the Year.
Lyndon commented: ‘Founded almost 40 years ago, IACLE continues to fulfil its mandate of providing cutting edge, contemporary education on contact lenses to contact lens educators around the globe. The vast majority of contact lens clinicians globally have been trained in some way by an IACLE-affiliated educator and without IACLE, and the resources it provides to educators, there is no doubt in my mind that contact lens practice would be behind where it is today. I am absolutely delighted to be given this award and I thank IACLE for its continued dedication to training the contact lens clinicians of tomorrow.’
FIACLE Runa Mazumder, Assistant Professor at the Vidyasagar College of Optometry & Vision Science in Kolkata, India is 2018 IACLE Asia Pacific Contact Lens Educator of the Year.
‘I am truly lost for words to express my feelings on winning the prestigious IACLE 2018 Educator of the Year Award,’ said Runa. I thank IACLE from the bottom of my heart for honoring me with this award that completes me as a contact lens educator. Teaching has always been my passion. When I started teaching contact lenses, with some knowledge and little confidence, I never thought I would achieve this success. But it is said that hard work and dedication always pays off, and it came true in my life! I really thank IACLE for exploring, improving and empowering me as a contact lens educator and practitioner.’
FIACLEs Wim Borst (left) and Henri Eek (right) are joint winners of the 2018 IACLE Europe / Africa – Middle East Contact Lens Educator of the Year Award. Both teach at Deltion College at Zwolle, the Netherlands and Henri also teaches at the Hogeschool Utrecht.
Wim commented: ‘I am very happily surprised and honored to win the award IACLE EAME Contact Lens Educator of the Year. Winning this award together with my colleague Henri shows that working together brings more result than working alone.’ Henri added: ‘It’s a great honor for me to receive the award and what a good idea to award us together!’
