IACLE NEWS AND VIEWS - APRIL 2005 EDITION

ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

Yes, it is that time of year again! IACLE has distributed membership invoices along with the 2005 President's Address. IACLE members who fail to pay their outstanding membership fees by 1st August 2005 will be moved to non-member status, after which they will need to re-apply for membership.

Please contact your National or Regional Coordinator if you have any questions regarding membership invoices or about annual membership fees.

IACLE's current membership totals more than 550 educators in approximately 267 institutions in 61 countries. IACLE must effectively use its limited resources to focus efforts on providing training and resources to those members who are actively involved in IACLE education programs and the promotion of contact lens education and awareness in their communities. Therefore, we encourage you to take part in IACLE programs and maintain ongoing communication with your national/regional coordinator and the IACLE Secretariat to inform IACLE of how you are utilizing the educational resources in your curriculum and in the community.

INDUSTRY SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS

One of IACLE's key areas to focus this year is on organizing more Industry Seminars and Workshops in order to increase the number of students getting exposure to the contact lens industry and products available to them.

Industry seminars are an opportunity for industry representatives to give product-specific lectures and to present the students with information and promotional materials. Industry workshops can be arranged as well, as these hands-on sessions allow for a more in-depth exposure to the products. Industry should also be encouraged to distribute trial lens sets and contact lens solutions to the institutions.

With the introduction of Industry Workshops a feedback form has been developed to gather information from students regarding their confidence levels and impressions of the Seminar. We encourage all of you to actively promote Industry Seminars and Workshops in your school. There is great benefit to the students, to educators, and to industry. Everyone wins!

If you have any questions or suggestions regarding Industry Seminars and Workshops, please contact your National or Regional Coordinator to assist you in arranging a program. You may also contact the IACLE Secretariat at iacle@iacle.org
