IACLE UPDATE and ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
San Diego, California
IACLE would like to invite all industry sponsors and IACLE Members to an IACLE Update and Annual General Meeting to be held in conjunction with the American Academy of Optometry conference in San Diego.
The meeting will be held on Saturday December 10th from 12:30 - 2:00 pm in the Columbia 2 Room at the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina. The first hour will be dedicated to providing a comprehensive update of our activities and accomplishments in 2005. This will be followed by a 30 minute Annual General meeting for the IACLE Members.
As this meeting will take place over the lunch hour, refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to boshart@uwaterloo.ca.

2005 IACLE INTENSIVE EDUCATOR MEETING
IACLE conducted an Intensive Educator Training Program at Donghua University in Shanghai from 24-28 October. A total of 24 educators from 17 institutions in China were invited to attend, and several industry representatives also participated.
During this program IACLE conducted 5 days of education, including lectures, hand-on workshops, discussions and video screenings. All lectures and workshop materials were provided in both English and Chinese, covering several contact lens-related topics, including:
Anatomy and Physiology of the Anterior Segment
Fitting Spherical and Toric Soft Contact Lenses
RGP Lens Design and Fitting
Contact Lens Care and Maintenance
Contact Lens-related Complications and Management
A knowledge evaluation exercise was conducted both before and at the end of the program (this was also conducted in Chinese). The results indicate that the IACLE educators meeting had a positive impact on the knowledge level of the delegates in all categories.
This meeting would not have been possible without industry support, and we are grateful to all the Industry sponsors who provided product samples for the workshops. Alcon, OSI/CooperVision and Bausch& Lomb also sponsored dinners for the attendees.
Q&A: MEMBERSHIP
QUESTION: WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T PAY MY IACLE MEMBERSHIP DUES?
ANSWER: If you choose to not renew your membership by non-payment of dues, you will be moved to inactive or "non-member" status. This means that you will not be eligible to participate in IACLE programs or obtain benefits. If you are an IACLE Resource Coordinator who does not renew, you will need to make arrangements for an alternate member to take on this responsibility. Without designating a new Resource Coordinator, the IACLE resource materials will need to be returned to IACLE.
2006 Invoices will be distributed early in the New Year. If you do not receive your membership Invoice by March 2006 please advise the IACLE Secretariat (iacle@iacle.org) as we may not have your most current postal details.
IACLE BIENNIAL ELECTION
Results of the 2005 Biennial Election will be presented at this year’s Annual General Meeting in San Diego at the American Academy of Optometry meeting.
A complete listing of regional council and executive board members will be circulated in the next issue of IACLE News & Views.
IACLE BIDS FAREWELL TO PAMELA CAPALDI
It is with mixed emotions that IACLE has said goodbye to one of our first and longest standing staff members. Pamela Capaldi worked for many years as IACLE’s Global Coordinator and most recently as the IACLE Special Projects Officer.
Pamela was involved in organizing many IACLE events over the years and was responsible for coordinating the IACLE Continuing Education Program. She also contributed significantly to the development of such resources as Module 10 of the IACLE Contact Lens Course and the IACLE
Technical Training Program. Pamela worked very closely with past Regional Coordinator for Latin America Percy Lazon and was instrumental in setting strategies and implementing programs in the region.
Pamela is now working on the Optometry Giving Sight campaign, providing them with years of experience and skills in event organization, and an entrepreneurial approach to fundraising activities. She will be missed by her friends at IACLE, but we wish Pamela well in this next stage
of her career.
