IACLE KOREA NEWSLETTER - May-June 2005

We present this newsletter to keep you informed of IACLE programs and upcoming events as well as to provide an opportunity for members’ involvement and the sharing of information.

IACLE MEMBERSHIP IN KOREA

IACLE is very keen on increasing the IACLE membership in Korea. We encourage all our members to inform us about schools and colleges which run optometry or opticianry courses and are not yet involved with IACLE. At present we have only 10 Resource centers in Korea. I am sure with your help we can double this number this year. We look forward to your support in increasing our membership in Korea.

We welcome Seok-Ju Lee as an IACLE Full Member from Dong Kang College.

We request members of IACLE who have not yet paid their 2005 membership fees to please send their fee invoices or discuss with Jai Min Kim the modes of payment for IACLE please.

INDUSTRY SEMINARS

An IACLE Industry Seminar was held at Seoul National University of Technology on 2nd May 2005, with 61 students, 1 educator and 3 industry sponsors in attendance. B&L, Alcon Labs & AMO participated in the Industry seminar. Free sets of trial lenses and company pamphlets were distributed to the students. Students were interested in the silicone hydrogel lenses which were newly introduced by some Industries. Bifocal lenses, which was presented by JoonSang Lee (Bausch & Lomb), was also considered as one of the interesting topics by students. Students were very happy to take home contact lens, multi-purpose solution, and lens cases provided by the Industry.

An IACLE Industry Seminar was held at Seoul National University of Technology on 9th May 2005, with 58 students, 1 educator and 3 industry sponsors in attendance. J&J, CIBA Vision & Ocular Sciences participated in the Industry seminar and free sets of trial lenses were distributed to the students. Also the industry distributed their company pamphlets to the students during the seminar.

We have received the industry seminar summary spreadsheet and the students feedback from Mijung Park of Seoul National University of Technology. Comments from the IACLE Resource Coordinator:

“We had a great time thanks to IACLE. Students and I know that it is not easy to have an opportunity to meet 6 different Industries at a time. I really appreciate you and other IACLE's members."

We encourage all resource co-ordinators to implement Industry seminars. This is an easy way for the students to come in contact with Industry and also get to know more about CL fitting, C&M and information on the new products available.

We would also like to let all the members know that IACLE will be sending the students questionnaire forms for the Product Information Days. We request the co-ordinators to send us the completed forms. If for any reason the co-ordinators are unable to enter the details filled in by students, you can send it to us and we can analyze it for you please. This feedback form will let us know how we can improve on the future Product Information Day’s.

The list of upcoming Industry days are:

1. Yeojoo Institute of Technology : 8th September 2005
2. Daebul University : 28th October 2005
3. Masan College : 11th November 2005

We request all resource co-ordinators to provide us with refractive errors of the students who will be attending Industry days. This will help us to interact with industry and arrange for free trial lenses.
