Five student trial exams were conducted and a total number of 200 graduating students sat for the exam. These exams were conducted prior to the government exam on September. Results were distributed to three of the schools.

FEATURE SCHOOL
ARO Kader Bangsa - Palembang
The Academy of Refractionist Optician Kader Bangsa was established in 1998 and is the youngest of three schools that is located in the Sumatra Island of Indonesia. The school implements a 3 years national optometry program with 3 semester of contact lens education. At present there are about 60 students taking optometry from this school.
There are 4 active IACLE members at this school. The IACLE Resource Center was established in 2002 and the school obtained a second hand video player and a new computer last year.
In 2004, a three-day Reverse program was held for 4 educators. And this program consisting of lectures, discussion session, videos and hand-on workshop was designed to assist educators to improve their teaching, technical and clinical skills.
Here is a comment from Ester Wijaya, (Director of the school) one year after the reverse program was conducted:
The direct involvement of IACLE in our school had brought significant changes in the educators’ way of teaching. Educators are making their lectures based on what they got from the IACLE reverse program and changes had been made to follow the teaching hours. IACLE CDs and videos are used in demonstration session before their practical sessions. It is interesting to see so much keenness, interest and initiative to study Contact Lens from both the educators and students. Students are keen to learn because we have IACLE resources in Bahasa.
For two consecutive years in 2004 and 2005, all the graduating students from this school passed the student trial exam. The passing score showed even a marked improvement from last year.
Here is a written script from Sriyani, one of the educators teaching contact lens
in the final semester:
We prepared our graduating students to sit for this STE by conducting two intensive review sessions a week before the exam. So I think that this kind of session help them remember things that might be forgotten, since some of the STE exam topics were taught two semesters ago. We even divide the class into smaller groups so that they can watch the CDs and videos. (Fitting of RGP and colored slides on contact lens complications).
I am glad to see the standard of my students improving. All this is happening because of the support that we got from IACLE through so many programs and our interest in education. IACLE is playing a crucial role in contact lens education in our school and country.

Recently IACLE has decided that all hard copies of the IACLE CL Course Modules would be phrased out and will only focus on CDs only. Only active Resource Centers will receive printed copies of the Modules in future. Therefore IACLE is having a "fire sale" of all printed modules. An entire 9-Module set of printed modules (Modules 1–7, 9 and 10) will cost US$ 60 (plus shipping/postage from Sydney). Stocks of these last hard copy modules are limited. For those who are interested in purchasing the modules as their personal copy, please contact the IACLE Indonesia office.

Active membership 2005
Recently IACLE had distributed membership invoices along with the 2005 President's Address. We would like to remind all IACLE members to pay for their outstanding membership fees punctually. Those members who have not paid their outstanding fee by 31 July 2005 will be moved to non-member status, after which they will need to re-apply for membership.

ACCREDITATION EXAMINATION RESULTS
The IACLE accreditation exam results were posted to all candidates in the first week of December. If you have not received the results, please contact the IACLE Indonesia office so that we can follow it up for you. Those candidates who successfully completed the examination are invited to apply for Fellow of IACLE (FIACLE) status.

Please be aware that IACLE will focus resources and efforts on those members who participate in IACLE programs.
