January 2005

IACLE welcomes Mr.Vivek Mendosa (Lawrence and Mayo) and Mr.Kalaiyarasan (Aravind Eye Hospital) as IACLE Members. The membership became active in January 2005.

PRODUCT INFORMATION DAYS

IACLE would like to propose the following pattern to be followed in the forthcoming Product Information Days wherever possible:

The session can be divided into lectures and workshop. The first half of the session is spent on delivering lectures. The second half of the sessions is dedicated to hands-on workshops. The students who receive free trial lenses will be fitted in this session with CL. It would be useful if the Industry could go through the entire procedure of lens fitting including:

  1. Ocular examination
  2. Refraction of patient
  3. Trial lens selection
  4. CL fitting and evaluation
  5. CL insertion and removal
  6. Dispensing and after care

This would also help us track how many students actually continue to wear lenses after been given a free pair.

A section of Industry could also deal with the care and maintenance aspect. The students could be rotated between the different stations.

IACLE would also like to get your feedback on the idea of giving students a questionnaire pre and post session in order to evaluate the knowledge they have gained through program. We are aware that all this would require more time and we therefore encourage schools to allot a full day towards conducting Product Information Days.

All your feedbacks on the above suggestions are welcome.
