IACLE OFFICERS RECOGNIZED WITH INTERNATIONAL AWARDS
IACLE Past President and current Secretary, Professor Brien Holden has been named as the recipient of the inaugural International Award of The American Academy of Optometry. In an Award Letter to Professor Holden from Donald Korb, Chair of the Awards Committee of the American Academy of Optometry,
he stated "The Award recognizes an individual or organization whose direct eforts and contributions have resulted in unquestionably significant and extraordinary advances in optometry and eye care internationally. The
Academy is delighted to confer this award upon you." Congratulations Brien

IACLE President and Associate Professor Deborah Sweeney has been
unanimously selected as the 2004 recipient of the University of Houston
College of Optometry Award for Distinguished Research on Cornea and Contact
Lenses. The award is presented to a scholar and/or a clinician who has made
significant contributions to the cornea and contact lens field, over an
extended period of time.
Debbie Sweeney was also chosen to present the Schapero Award Lecture by the
Section on Cornea and Contact Lenses. The Section Award Lecture titled,
"Contacts On or In the Cornea?" will be presented at this year's American
Academy of Optometry Meeting.
Brien will also receive the award at the Annual Meeting of the American
Academy of Optometry. This year's annual meeting will be held at the Tampa
Convention Center, Tampa, Florida, December 9-12, 2004, with the Awards
Program on Saturday, December 11th from 8:15 to 10:15am. Join IACLE
colleagues too, for the Australia Party the same Saturday, December 11th,
from 8pm to 1am to celebrate with Brien, Debbie, and IACLE friends!
