Local and International Educator Fellowships are an effective training
mechanism in which educators gain exposure to contact lens education,
research and practice at another teaching institution. The program
offers educators the opportunity to gain further knowledge in specialty
areas of teaching and study.
Local Educator Fellowships are a means of gathering information
and increasing knowledge levels prior to sitting for the Accreditation
Examination. Therefore, national and regional coordinators
will work with the participating member to ensure that the fellowship
is tailored according to the member's particular needs.
To ensure that the educator receives the full benefits of the International
Education Fellowship program, IACLE encourages the completion of
the Distance Learning Program
and Accreditation Examination
before participation is considered. These programs highlight areas
where additional training is necessary as well as provide a measure
of the educator's level of knowledge, which will therefore allow
the program to be tailored accordingly.
While attending their host school, Fellows gain access to resources
including scientific literature, course material and audio-visual
resources. They are also encouraged to attend seminars and local
conferences and to begin research collaborations with colleagues
in their host schools.
