What is the Accreditation
Examination?
The IACLE Accreditation
Examination was first administered in 1996 and is conducted
every second year for interested IACLE members. We are grateful
to the USA based National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO)
for providing guidance and selected questions for the initial
examination. The IACLE Accreditation Examination continues in
accordance with NBEO guidelines.
The examination provides members with a valuable measure
of their own knowledge and helps them to identify any areas
where knowledge is lacking. Successful completion of the examination
allows the educator to apply to become a
Fellow of IACLE. IACLE uses information gathered from
the examination to tailor educational programs and resources
accordingly.
The examination consists of 150 multiple choice questions
and topics covered include general knowledge relating to basic
science, optics, patient management, and fitting of contact
lenses. It is recommended that the IACLE
Contact Lens Course Modules be studied for examination
preparation.
As the examination is diagnostic in nature, there is no "failure",
and educators may sit for the examination as many times as
they wish. Results will be kept strictly confidential and
only available to the individual and IACLE's Director of Education.
For those members that do not successfully complete the Accreditation
Examination, IACLE has developed educational and remediation
programs to help raise their level of knowledge and skills.
Programs such as the Distance
Learning Program provide educators with a systematic method
of studying the modules of the IACLE
Contact Lens Course.
The examination has been translated from English into Spanish,
Chinese, Bahasa (Indonesian), Korean and French. So that more
educators will have access to this important assessment system,
our industry sponsors
generously meet the cost for any member of IACLE to sit for
the examination.
