IACLE PROGRAMS UPDATE

The Distance Learning Program (DLP)

56 members worldwide have register in the DLP program this year.  The introduction of the FIACLE Candidate Stream has streamlined registration into this program and we are confident that it will result in most, if not all, participants registering to write the future Accreditation Exam planned for 2011.

IACLE MEETING AT THE BCLA

Thank you to all members who participated in the IACLE meeting and those who joined us for dinner on May 26th just prior to the BCLA.
For those of you who did not attend, we discussed IACLE Programs (Distance Learning program {DLP} and the Student Trial Exam {STE}), Resources such as the IACLE Contact Lens Course (ICLC) and the Case Reports Series.  Workshops were conducted on such topics as Competencies in the clinical setting and Technical options for teaching.

Over the course of the BCLA, IACLE Executive Board members and staff met with our industry partners to provide an update of activities and to discuss future plans for IACLE.   Multimedia was a hot topic pertaining to the delivery of our educational material.

IACLE MEETING MAY 26TH

As has been announced in previous newsletters, IACLE is conducting an educational meeting for members and industry partners prior to the start of the BCLA in Birmingham on May 26th.  All members are most welcome and if you are able to attend, please RSVP as soon as possible to Carmen Carrillo: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The meeting will be held in the Arden room of the Hilton Metropole and is set to start at 12.30pm and finish by 3.45pm.   It will consist of special topics and workshops and will conclude with a dinner in conjunction with BUCCLE (British Universities Committee of Contact Lens Educators).  Here is an outline of the agenda:

Resource Centres and Coordinators

IACLE Resource Centres play an integral role in raising the standard of contact lens education and promoting the safe use of contact lenses worldwide.  An IACLE Resource Centre can be established at an institute where contact lens educators are full members and one of them agrees to the responsibility of acting as the RC Coordinator.  The centrally designated area within an institute functions as a small library or reference centre housing IACLE educational resources, which can be accessed by educators and supervised students.
