FIACLE teachingIACLE’s most active, visible and involved members, are recognised for their accomplishments within the global discipline of contact lens education. Upon successful completion of the IACLE Accreditation Exam, IACLE members are eligible to apply for Fellow of IACLE (FIACLE).

FIACLEs are seen as leaders within their field, frequently invited to speak at educational meetings, providing practitioner and student education within their professional communities.

With IACLE acting as the coordinating body, the FIACLE program provides a mechanism for communication designed to:

  • Create opportunities for exposure of FIACLEs in their local/regional professional circles
  • Develop a team of FIACLEs who can provide quality practitioner and student education
  • Provide the profession with a resource team who can respond to requests on a local/regional level
  • Provide industry sponsors with a team of educators they may access to assist in professional education
  • Develop better local/regional contact lens academic infrastructure through collaboration of all local/regional sources of knowledge
  • Facilitate stronger working relationships between local FIACLEs, professionals and industry

FIACLE Guidelines
:

  1. A Member who wishes to become a Fellow of the Association shall submit to the IACLE Secretariat an Application for Fellow of IACLE (FIACLE).
  2. All applications shall be reviewed by the Executive Committee, or their designate(s), who shall make a recommendation concerning the application to the Executive Board for approval.
  3. The Executive Board shall not admit to Fellow status any member who in the opinion of the Board does not meet all the conditions for Fellow status.  In the event of the Board declining to admit a member to Fellow status, the Board shall not be bound to give any reason for its refusal.
  4. Fellows shall be issued with a certificate stating “Fellow of IACLE” and shall be entitled to use the designation ‘FIACLE’ on letterhead and business cards, providing that the Fellow is a recognised and current Fellow and a current IACLE member in good standing.
  5. Any Fellow who is found to have made a false declaration shall immediately forfeit the rights and privileges of Fellow status and the use of the title, FIACLE.
  6. The Executive may recommend revocation of Fellow status to the Executive Board of any member who is found not to meet the conditions of Fellow status.
  7. Whenever a meeting of the Executive Board is called to approve revocation of a Fellow status, the Fellow concerned shall be notified of the intention of the Executive to act.   Such a person shall be given the opportunity to make a written submission to the Executive.
  8. A decision against an applicant for Fellow of IACLE status may be appealed to a special subcommittee (the Appeals Subcommittee) set up for that purpose.
  9. On receipt of such a request the Secretariat shall thereupon call a meeting of the Appeals Subcommittee which shall consider the written submission of the member who has been denied Fellow status and shall decide by secret ballot conducted at the meeting whether or not the member shall be interviewed, admitted or restored to Fellow status and such decision shall be binding and conclusive and without any further appeal.
  10. If for any reason IACLE membership or FIACLE status has expired or been discontinued, the member will be required to re-apply for FIACLE status, or submit an appeal to the Executive Board for consideration.
  11. A Fellow in good standing who has retired and for that reason is no longer a registered member of IACLE or has completed 15 years as a Fellow may continue to be a Fellow and exercise all the rights and privileges of Fellow status without the need for continued membership status or review.
  12. Each year when renewing membership and paying annual dues, the FIACLE must indicate if they wish to renew their FIACLE status.  Either regular activity reports such as monthly or annually using the "Declaration of Participation" report, must be submitted for the renewal to be approved.

FIACLE Reporting

It is favoured that FIACLEs regularly submit activity reports to their IACLE National/Regional Coordinator/Administrator.  Ideally each month or bimonthly we hope to receive activity reports.  Otherwise, when membership fees are paid annually we must have a Declaration of Participation form complete to cover the previous year (see below under FIACLE Application and Renewal Process).

FIACLE activities will be listed in our national and regional newsletters and notices where possible.  We request all photos which accompany the activities be emailed in jpg format in high resolution to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. FIACLE Education Library (FEL)

We are in the process of reviving the FIACLE Educational Library which requires each renewing FIACLE to contribute at least one educational resource as evidence of their continued adherence to the FIACLE guidelines and 'Declaration of Participation'. This library will be a valuable educational resource list for all other contact lens educators to view the latest educational material from around the globe online via our website.  Updates on the progress of this program will be mentioned in our e-newsletters.

FIACLE Application Process

When applying for FIACLE status complete this form:  FIACLE application (pdf).  Submit this to your regional IACLE office.

Renewal Qualification Criteria

You must renew your status annually by ticking the appropriate boxes on your annual membership fee invoice.  Accompanied with your signed annual membership fee invoice, if you have not reported your activities throughout the year you are required to do so by an annual summary using the same report template, known as the "Declaration of Participation". Without this your FIACLE status can not be renewed.

FIACLEs associated with an institution:

  • Develop and deliver lectures, workshops or poster sessions to practitioners and/or educators
  • Submit and/or publish journal articles or book chapters
  • Participate in local or regional conferences to attend lectures and/or scientific sessions

FIACLEs not associated with an institution (i.e. associate or industry members):

  • Presentation at IACLE meetings
  • At the request of the Executive Board, represent IACLE to Industry
